    Research Associate Professor (Department of Supply Chain Management and the School of Packaging) Axia Institute, Michigan State University

    Dr. Bahar Aliakbarian is Research Associate Professor at the Axia Institute- Department of Supply Chain Management and the School of Packaging at the Michigan State University. Dr. Aliakbarian received her Ph.D. degree in Chemical, Material and Process Engineering from University of Genoa (Italy) in 2009. From 2009 – 2017 she held positions at the University of Genoa, Harvard-MIT Health Sciences & Technology, and the University of Sydney.

    Bahar’s multidisciplinary research experiences focus on the integration of innovative engineering technologies which has led to the formulation of new products with food and biomedical applications. Her work has broadened to the development of active and smart packaging for food and pharmaceutical applications. She is particularly interested in the use of smart technologies to track and monitor food and pharmaceuticals along the supply chain. Dr. Aliakbarian has over 75 Peer Reviewed Articles, 4 book chapters, 2 provisional patents, and over 45 International Conference Presentations.

    Eric Biel, Principal Electrical Engineer, earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and 2012 respectively.  His thesis work included both "Effects of Ground Plane Size on PCB Edge Mount Antennas" and "Design Issues in Multi-Band RF Energy Harvesting".  His professional background includes extensive experience in Class III (life supporting/sustaining) medical device design, antenna, RF and PCB design as well as nano-power electrical design.  He has one issued patent in medical device design with numerous pending applications in the wireless power and RFID fields.  Mr. Biel has presented at a host of industry leading conferences and seminars in the US on topics ranging from RF/inductive power transfer to defibrillator hardware architecture.

    After starting her career as an environmental engineer for a global consulting firm, Beth Holland joined General Electric as a site Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) manager and later transitioned to Ingersoll Rand Company to lead Lean Six Sigma and EHS for over 50 service centers worldwide. While with Ingersoll Rand, Beth advanced through multiple global roles dedicated to both EHS and Sustainability. She was also among an elite group of 15 high-potential employees selected for a company-sponsored MBA program with Indiana University where she was recognized with several President’s Awards for her leadership on various strategic initiatives.
